For those of you just joining the Bones, welcome aboard, here's hoping we don't crash and burn too fast.
So today the wanderlust siezed me and the crazy notion of venturing out of my dorm room came about. VERY WELL! Said I. Anything to get me away from World of Warcraft.
Being in the city of Mount Pleasant, there is not necessarilly much to do that does not involve pickling your liver and since this was rather early in the afternoon, Liver Pickling was not a completely viable option for me. So I called up my buddy Josh and we headed over to what can easilly be described as one of the most kick ass places to pull up a chair in this little farmville, Kaya.
Kaya is the local mecca for hipsters, hippies, those who feel like chillin and those who just want to look cool. Walking in, I was instantly blasted with that wonderful aroma of roasted beans. Beneath the ceiling of burlap sacks (No, that is not my english minor working up some sort of BEEE-you-tea-full metaphor, the ceiling is litterally lined with sacks) there are easy chairs, little tables, a raised area for playing music, and even a shelf full of board games. Yeah. That's right. I said it. Board games. How kickass is that?
What really got me though, was the menu. It's full of all sorts of crazy drinks. This isn't a place that just sells lattes and cappacinos, this place has done to coffee what coldstone did to ice cream. "Hey. Let's see what happens when I put this in here!"
I'm not ashamed to say, I wouldn't have minded being the guinne pig that got to try all of these. Not only do these drinks get you good and wired, they taste flippin amazing! My personal favorite was The Thirsty Turtle. If you can order that without giggling, you are much more mature than I. but is that really a good thing?
Anyway, the only real downside to this place is the prices, you'll usually see me in there picking up a small cup of normal coffee (I'm no coffee expert, but they really do have some decent brews) just because the cooler drinks cost about double what a normal coffee would. Honestly, this place is the hot place during the day in a college town with not much else to do. They CAN charge more than Speedway and they KNOW it.
But hey, if you're a student at CMU and you want a pretty bitchin place to hang out, check this place out. Notice I said hang out. This isn't a place that you just grab your coffee and go, though you're not exactly going to get the hateful beams if you do. This is really a place to kick back and chill. Bring a book, play some chess, do whatever. What else are you going to do? Sit in your dorm until the Wayho opens up? Come on!
Anyway that's it for the Bones today.
Love and Peace and all that Jazz,
-Costello
P.S.
They have an entire menu of sammiches too. In the immortal words of every college student "If I had the money, I'd be all over that shit!"
Ahaha The Thirsty Turtle. Love the Blog =)
